She was born in 1892 in Girona, in the Mercadal neighbourhood, where she spent her childhood, and she died in 1974. She was a leftist catalant novelist and cellist. Since she was a child she liked the world of literature and music, but when she finished her school years, her father (the writer Prudenci Bertrana) he prefered that she would study in a music academy. During this period, she lived in the house of the writer Carme Karr, who later helped her signing up for the Dalcroze High School in Geneva. A year later she dropped out of her musical studies and she joined the the Letters Department in the University of Geneva, also. That year she also setted up the Trio de senyoretes (‘Trio of young ladies’) with two other friends, and there she was the jazz-woman: “It was the first time that we leapt into jazz, and that meant and authentic revolution of the feminine orchestras. Don’t forget that this happened in 1924! (Aurora Bertrana. Palma, Voctòria. Femení i singulars (in catalan). First edition: April 2016). Barcelona: Huygens, 7th of April 2017, p 187-200. ISBN 978-84-15663-62-1.) Later she created the first jazz band composed only of women. Her final decision was getting married, giving up music and continue studying at university so she could become a writer, her childhood dream. In 1936 she was living in Empúries when the war broke out and she returned to Barcelona, but finally she escaped and went to Geneva where she worked as a translator. Later she did different jobs, for example teaching Spanish, as a servant and lady in waiting, etc. All of this without giving up on writing. In 1950 she returned to Catalonia and continued writing until she died when she was 81 in Berga.
